PRP's customer had a requirement for a programmable legend pushbutton switch display. The display needed to fit within the confines of an aircraft panel switch housing.
PRP developed a miniature display module with a high degree of integration. A mixed mode ASIC was designed which required only minimal external components to realise a complete LED matrix driver.
In addition, careful attention was paid to the thermal aspects of the package design and novel techniques were employed to ensure the display did not get excessively hot in the poor thermal environment in which it is installed.
